When The Magnificent Seven hit the big screen in 1960, heroism was firmly in male hands. Today, it is female artists who are redefining the art world with visionary force. Sebastian C. Strenger presents outstanding female voices in contemporary art, including Ingeborg Lüscher (*1936, CH), Elfie Semotan (*1941, AT), Xenia Hausner (*1951, AT), Valérie Favre (*1959, FR), Sandra Vásquez de la Horra (*1978, CL), Liliane Tomasko (*1967, CH), Simone Haack (1978, DE), and Cristina Lucas (1973, ES). Their works challenge power structures, explore identity, and deconstruct dominant narratives. They work figuratively or abstractly, narratively or conceptually, politically or introspectively. These artists are reshaping the art market and redefining the new canon in international institutions by questioning established structures and opening up new spaces for thought. The group exhibition The Magnificent Seven, opening during the Paris Gallery Weekend, will take place from 23 May to 22 June 2025 and features eight significant international contemporary positions. It marks the first exhibition in the new Paris location of the historic BASTIAN gallery, originally from Berlin. Following the Brexit and its consequences for art and the art market, the gallery decided to relocate from London to Paris. BASTIAN looks back on nearly four decades of success, including collaborations with artists such as Joseph Beuys, Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Anselm Kiefer, and Andy Warhol.
